Crescimento em Goniopsis cruentata (Latreille) (Crustacea, Brachyura, Grapsidae) em laboratório Zoologia
Silva,Zilanda de Souza; Oshiro,Lídia Miyako Yoshii.
The growth of the crab Goniospis cruentata (Latreille. 1803), was studied in the laboratory, through of the molt increment and intermolt period. A total of 86 crabs (48 males and 38 females) were collected in the ltacuruçá's Mangrove in Mangaratiba's county. Rio de Janeiro. The crabs were maintened in the laboratory in four 1000 l tanks, with continuous water circulation during fifteen months. They were fed each two days with pieces of fish and fruits. The crabs varied in size from 19.3 to 56.0 mm in males and 23.3 to 48.8 mm in females. The males presented until four molts during the experiment and the females until six molts. The molts oceurred during ali the months. The mean percentage of molt increment was 6.1 ± 2.7%, for both sexes and it decreased...

Effect of temperature on the survival and growth of freshwater prawns Macrobrachium borellii and Palaemonetes argentinus (Crustacea, Palaemonidae) Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Montagna,Marcela C..
During the two-month rearing period, the effect of four water temperatures (15°C, 20°C, 25°C and 30°C) on survival rate, number of molts, and growth rate (molt increment and intermolt period) of juvenile Macrobrachium borellii Nobili, 1896 and Palaemonetes argentinus Nobili, 1901 prawns was evaluated in laboratory conditions. The two species showed some similarities in their both survival and growth pattern at different temperatures. The survival rate was highest at 20°C and 25°C, decreasing at the lowest temperature. The number of molts increased at higher temperatures, ranging the intermolt period from 22.2 days to 9.9 days, for M. borellii, and from 20.8 to 9.5 days for P. argentinus, corresponding those values to 15°C and 30°C, respectively. No...

Growth and developmental time in the parthenogenetic scorpion Tityus stigmurus (Thorell, 1876) (Scorpiones: Buthidae) Biological Sciences
Souza, Adriano Medeiros de; Santana Neto, Pedro de Lima; Lira, André Felipe de Araujo; Albuquerque, Cleide Maria Ribeiro de.
This study describes variation in ontogenetic development of the parthenogenetic scorpion Tityus stigmurus based on variations in size, intermolt period, and number of instars. Individuals were created under laboratory conditions (28 ± 3ºC) and subjected to similar diet regime. Comparative measurements of carapace, segment V of the metasoma, and the movable finger are used to estimate variations in size among instars. The application of Dyar rule shows a growth factor from 1.14 to 1.38 depending on the parameter analysed with intense variations in size between and within the different instars. The duration of the period from birth to adulthood was 871 days, after six moults. These data suggest that T. stigmurus has the longest post-embryonic development of...
